Endowed Chair of Precision Oncology Research
Lead the future of precision oncology
Cabrini Health – a leading private hospital in Melbourne affiliated with the School of Translational Medicine at Monash University – invites applications for its newly established Endowed Chair of Precision Oncology Research. The appointment represents a generational opportunity to establish and lead a department that will meaningfully shape the future of precision oncology in Australia and beyond.
The Chair will join Cabrini’s integrated cancer research and clinical network, which includes:
- one of the largest providers of comprehensive cancer care in Australia;
- three nationally recognised research departments across medical oncology, surgery, and urology;
- a large program of clinical trials spanning oncology and haematology; and
- a clinical precision oncology program expected to introduce comprehensive genomic profiling within the next 12 months.
To conduct transformative research, the Chair will be supported by:
- a $10 million fixed-term philanthropic endowment;
- institutional support and an adjunct academic appointment through Monash University; and
- dedicated laboratory space within the Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre at the Alfred.
The Position
The Chair will be expected to:
- establish and lead a world-class department in precision oncology research;
- conduct translational research that meaningfully advances precision oncology;
- complement and enhance cancer research at Cabrini, particularly programs in clinical trials and precision oncology;
- foster clinical and scientific partnerships across Cabrini Health and Monash University, and
- build prominent national and international research collaborations and consortia.
- Candidates aligned to the clinical precision oncology program will have the opportunity to contribute to or oversee its development and will be given preference during the evaluation process.
Candidate Requirements
Candidates must demonstrate:
- doctoral qualifications (PhD, MD, FRCPA, FRACP, international equivalent) in a relevant discipline, including but not limited to medical oncology, molecular pathology, and clinical genetics;
- eligibility for specialist registration or academic appointment in Australia, where applicable;
- global recognition for excellence in research, clinical translation, and sector leadership within precision oncology;
- demonstrated experience in building or leading multidisciplinary research or clinical programs;
- a strong record in securing competitive national and international funding, industry partnerships, or translational research commercialisation; and
- outstanding skills in communication, leadership, mentorship, and capacity building.
- Researchers from both clinical and non-clinical backgrounds are encouraged to apply. International candidates are also welcomed with visa support provided by Cabrini Health, an accredited sponsor.

- a curriculum vitae including academic qualifications and professional registrations, recent and significant appointments, relevant achievements, research interests, competitive funding history, and contributions to the field; and
- contact details for referees who can collectively comment on your qualifications, leadership, and research impact (minimum five) – these may be provided at a later stage if preferred.
